Where Have All the Summers Gone?

Especially this summer….with the National Storytelling Conference in town, it was a whirlwind. Having been to three conferences in the past, it truly offered some of the richest content I have experienced, including workshops on working with teens, coaching, and marketing…all part of the storytelling tool bag.

I had the honor to co-produce the All Regions Concert in which we selected a storyteller from each of the National Storytelling Network regions to represent their region in concert. My husband and I also hosted Bill Park, the teller from Australia representing the International Region for two weeks during and after the concert. I had the pleasure of taking him to two gigs up north and showing him Big Sur. Oddly enough, he seemed more interested in the little town of Shandon, which reminded him of his life growing up on a ranch in the Outback. I was also one of about 20 performers to perform at the Pacific Showcase at the Conference. And if that wasn’t enough, I was asked to serve on the Board as the Pacific Regional Director. Needless to say, I don’t think the whirlwind will stop anytime soon.

Even so, I had the opportunity to work on some new material and further refine my Storytelling and Literacy residency programming. In case you have not have marked your calendars, September 8th is International Literacy Day and here is a link to some events and ways to develop literacy in your school and communities. In addition to my work as a storyteller and educator, I am particularly honored this year to be working in the evenings with Beginning and Intermediate adult ESL students in the Ventura Unified School District. How lucky can a girl get to be working in a profession that is my passion and with such appreciative audiences?

Here’s to wishing you a successful school year and hoping that we will have the opportunity to work together in bringing the power of story in educating to your classroom! Please contact me at Elaine@embodiedvoicestoryarts.com if you would like to receive an overview of my Storytelling and Literacy residency or if you would like to book an assembly performance.

All the best!
